Take it easy, it’s supposed to be fun!

Today sucked.  It was 85 degrees here.  It really was not that hot in the van, but I was on my fat belly cutting insulation strips, thus making it miserable.  It was not physically comfortable and I got more than a little tired.  I grumbled and cussed and it went downhill from there.  I said the “f word” a lot.

Then I remembered, this is supposed to be a fun project!  If it stops being fun, then STOP!  I took a break for the afternoon and slept inside in the trailer which has central air conditioning.  I had time to rest and reflect about the project.  It was soothing and therapeutic.

Tomorrow is supposed to be 30 degrees cooler than today.  Should it not be more enjoyable working in much cooler weather?  I think so.

Remember this… If you are hot and tired and hate what you are doing…. STOP!!!!  You are not doing yourself a favor in terms of progress or psychological benefit by being miserable.  Wait till you feel better.  Remember, the only time we’re supposed to hate what we are doing and be miserable is when we go to work…  Just kidding.

Here are some important van conversion benefits you will realize if you take it easy and have some fun…

1)  You will do a better job when you are not feeling rushed or stressed.   Less rework is needed.
2)  It is also less stressful because you are not physically or mentally suffering.
3)  You will make better and more accurate planning and buying decisions.  You save time and money.
4)  You will have so much more FUN which is what it is all about!

THE BIGGEST THINGS TO REMEMBER….  If you are doing a van conversion you are on a solo journey to your own happiness.  You do not have to explain yourself to anyone or feel obligated to meet anyone’s expectations.  They would not understand anyway!  Van dwellers experience HOPE and FREEDOM few understand and it starts with when you are handed the keys to your new home.  Enjoy the experience.  It’s the happiest time of your life!

About VanTrekker

I am a former vandweller in Eastern Iowa who, for several years (off and on), lived in a 2007 Chevy cargo van. I still travel around Iowa with my tortoise shell cat, Jennifer Stefanie. Our favorite place to explore is the Country Heritage Community, the four far northeastern counties of Iowa (Clayton, Winneshiek, Allamakee, and Fayette). Ride along as we fish in pristine trout streams, enjoy fine home cooked camping meals, and meet new people. It's all possible on a shoestring budget. Happy travels always! --- Brad, the "Van Trekker"
