Just a quick update… I promise, no lengthy blog today!
The Mr. Heater Buddy is working fine. For the current needs (occasional short term camping), the heater is sufficient for now. Eventually, I will do the 20lb propane tank thing. For now, the pricey little 1 lb canisters will work.
To hang the heater, two very long #8 sheet metal screws (about 2 inches) were used to fasten through the plastic door cover and into the sheet metal. I backed off the screws just enough (1/4″ or so) to allow the heater to securely hang using holes that were already in the case of the heater. Be careful to make sure metal is behind the plastic panel where you are drilling into door.
So far, things are warm but nothing is hot. The true test will be tonight when I camp out. Just to be a little extra safe, I am buying a second fire extinguisher to keep by the bed just in case… Overall, this location does offer some added safety because it is away from clothing, bedding, etc.
Time to get the winter fishing equipment out. I’m hoping for a nice, harsh Iowa winter. Anyone else eager to do some ice fishing and camping this year?
