Recent Changes to Blog

I think he takes more than two bites!

Good morning and thanks for reading…  In recent days I’ve been contemplating adding some more things to the blog… To do this, it was necessary to shift the columns around… Other minor tweaks are in progress.

First of all, I’ve decided to keep the blog free of commercial ads.  Even though I was approved by one company to run them, I wish to keep all of the blog’s “real estate” for content and links to other cool sites.  Also, I just realized I cannot advertise the products I wished to tout.  Amazon runs many of the same products for far lower prices than where I work, there’s no sales tax, and you get free shipping.  Running ads that reflect large savings by buying from other companies could be construed as a conflict of interest.

I like the Amazon ads though.  I noticed that there are some excellent blogs out there that do a great job of running compact, relevant vendor offers.  Please click through their ads rather than going directly to Amazon.  You’ll get the same price and support your friendly blogger.

Another update was to add a donate button.  Why?   It’s relatively benign and I doubt will offend very many.  The decision to donate to the cause is anonymous and completely optional…  Someone pointed out recently that “donate buttons” are not considered unfavorably, particularly in the context of this forum.  Many of us reside in our vehicles and are open-minded.  We’re accustomed to seeing people seeking others’ kindness… Now if the blog was for something such as collectors of fine Waterford crystal, that button might look a little odd.

Other than the tweaks you see, few changes are planned.  I did shorten up all the links for the favorite blogs.  The idea was to use names for the URLs.  If you have a blog and it’s not on here or you wish to list it differently (or correctly) please let me know.

Thanks for stopping by!

Brad

About VanTrekker

I am a former vandweller in Eastern Iowa who, for several years (off and on), lived in a 2007 Chevy cargo van. I still travel around Iowa with my tortoise shell cat, Jennifer Stefanie. Our favorite place to explore is the Country Heritage Community, the four far northeastern counties of Iowa (Clayton, Winneshiek, Allamakee, and Fayette). Ride along as we fish in pristine trout streams, enjoy fine home cooked camping meals, and meet new people. It's all possible on a shoestring budget. Happy travels always! --- Brad, the "Van Trekker"

Nice layout, but since you are fixing links, I realized it’s Brian’s Bus Adventure, not Brina’s. I thought it was a new link until I clicked on it and realized I already had it in my archives.

  2. Thanks for listing us in your blogroll!

There are a very few commercial ads that are worth running, and a huge, big bunch that are non-worth it. Amazon is pretty worthy, IMO, just because they don’t expect you to run ads until you’re senile so you get past their threshold (coughGOOGLEcough). I like to run Marianne’s ad, just because she’s a real person and provides a real service to boondockers. Etc. Donate buttons don’t offend me.

A few of the ads I run are destined for the delete bin.

Ooops! Sorry about that, Brian! Got it fixed…

Roxanne, I thought Amazon was a good way to go but ran into one snag – conflict of interest. The idea was to advertise things I use for the van. The problem is that I work for a major home improvement store (nicknamed “Big Orange”). They would take a dim view of me working as an asoociate for another company that regularly has much better prices, no sales tax, and offers free shipping… *smile*

I like the new look. Very clean and easy to use. Really important features for your blog fans. Hope all is going well in cold country.

  5. Oh, bummer! Maybe you should go incognito. Go underground. It’s not like you’ve got a big LOWE’S banner up there.

LOL. No problem. I’m kind of happy to be able to keep the blog as simple as possible. It’s not likely that I would have earned that much money anyway from the ads.

    Have a good one! 🙂

Just got a list together myself and included you too, as promised.
