Possible New Job and a Trip

Gotta keep the van maintained somehow….
Greetings!  There was a little good news today.  I had an interview for a job working with auto parts.  It would be part time (easily to become full time, if desired).  There will be a background check and then hopefully an offer.  With a 100% clean criminal record, there’s no sweat there.  An employee discount on car parts is a nice little perk, too… Oh, how I could have used that last year!
Since the free time may disappear to some degree in the coming days, a little three day trip seemed like a good idea.  I plan to take off on Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and come back on Monday… (unless work calls and I need to shorten the excursion).  The destinations will be close to home in Buchanan and Black Hawk counties in Iowa.
  • On the agenda for the upcoming weekend is biking all three days with plenty of pictures.  This will include a bike ride along Amish Boulevard (a paved road with an extra wide shoulder to accommodate horse and buggy travel).  This artery connects many Amish farms and stores.
  • Fontana campground – a treasure of Buchanan County will be the perfect place to camp, fish, bike, and hike for a day.  It should be a blast!  It is next to an old mill and dam as well as a scenic old bridge.
  • Later in the weekend, I’m going to check out the extensive bike trails in Waterloo and Cedar Falls, Iowa.  Two days are required to do the trail system justice.
  • There will be an extra post with some info and tips on making some kick-ass burgers.  Dad and I recently attended a 3 hour grilling class and picked up some simple but easy ways to make better hamburgers.  It will be fun to try out the new ideas on Friday.
  • There are some cool restaurants to try along the way including a five star diner in a very old section of town in Waterloo.  It sounds awesome!

Things will be busy the next 24 hours getting the van cleaned out and packed for a little “stay-cation” (a getaway in close proximity to home).  Hopefully the posts will start going up on Saturday or so.  It’s going to be a fun time.
If you haven’t signed up for the email notifications of new posts, please consider it.  Your email addresses are kept private (I don’t even know who signs up)… It’s an easy way to follow if you enjoy following the antics of the author.
Take care and have a spectacular weekend!  Make it a great one!

    About VanTrekker

I am a former vandweller in Eastern Iowa who, for several years (off and on), lived in a 2007 Chevy cargo van. I still travel around Iowa with my tortoise shell cat, Jennifer Stefanie. Our favorite place to explore is the Country Heritage Community, the four far northeastern counties of Iowa (Clayton, Winneshiek, Allamakee, and Fayette). Ride along as we fish in pristine trout streams, enjoy fine home cooked camping meals, and meet new people. It's all possible on a shoestring budget. Happy travels always! --- Brad, the "Van Trekker"

Sounds like a great time ahead! Looking forward to reading the posts on these awesome adventures.

And CONGRATS on being off insulin…what a great accomplishment!

Also, are others having problems with the email notification system? I signed up over a month ago (at least) and have never received anything (I’ve checked to make sure and it’s not going to the spam folder).

    2. Brad,
In the words of Jaques Picard… “Make it so”… and have a great time and good luck with the interview.

On other thoughts, maybe adding an RSS feed button to your site would fit with the way some people prefer to get notifications. It’s a simple process of checking a box in your settings.

      To Anonymous,
I had mistakenly thought that “Following” would get me email notifications, but you have to use the email opt-in form above the Followers. Since I did that, it works fine. On the RSS feeds, for any site that has the icon on it, all you have to do is get a Google account and then get a Google Reader page. I sent the link for my page to my desktop so I can find it easily. All of the sites that you get a “feed” for will be listed there, along with a lot of other information, so it keeps them all in one place. It even tells you which ones have been read and how many are new.

On Windows Live Mail, the feeds will also show up on your mail program, but since I switched from that to Thunderbird, the RSS feeds no longer show up there, Still having the Google Reader page on my desktop works just as well. If you are new to that stuff, feel free to contact me and I will try to help you get it set up.

Thanks John… As time allows, I will add the functionality… Maybe this weekend it can happen.

      Have a good one!
