Collection of Camping Recipes

Half the fun of camping is the cooking!

I’ve been meaning to do this for some time – create a collection of camping recipes that have worked out well on the road.   The blog is in place and I’ll be working on populating it going forward.

It is located at Van Trekker’s Recipes  or simply click the little cartoon at the top right part of this blog.

Some of the old recipes have been copied over to that new blog.  In the future posts on this blog, I will reference something cooked and then give you a link to the cooking blog which will open on a separate page.  That will keep these posts a little shorter.

There are some new and old favorite recipes planned for posting in the coming days.  One is a wonderful Mexican ceviche.  I’m going to experiment with some pomegranates and rice, as well as try simple, no-bake pineapple / coconut / cream cheese / pecan cookies for the holidays.  Stay tuned…

As time allows, I’ll clean up the format of the other blog and add the subscribe buttons, etc.  Things have been busy working at a new job building up the reserves for 2013 camping.

Take care and thanks for stopping by.

About VanTrekker

I am a former vandweller in Eastern Iowa who, for several years (off and on), lived in a 2007 Chevy cargo van. I still travel around Iowa with my tortoise shell cat, Jennifer Stefanie. Our favorite place to explore is the Country Heritage Community, the four far northeastern counties of Iowa (Clayton, Winneshiek, Allamakee, and Fayette). Ride along as we fish in pristine trout streams, enjoy fine home cooked camping meals, and meet new people. It's all possible on a shoestring budget. Happy travels always! --- Brad, the "Van Trekker"

The recipe blog is a great resource, Brad. Also love the color theme.

We are camping right now. I have chicken wings thawed, but it’s too rainy to grill, so I’ll have to come up with something tasty to do with them inside the camper.

Want to come help out? 😀

Hi! Chicken wings sound good. You can do so much with them. I would probably cook them up with some teriyaki sauce and pineapple…

In Iowa, we’re obsessed with making buffalo chicken wings which would be so nice after a long day of work… that and some homemade Maytag bleu cheese dressing. 🙂

At the moment, this area is in a blizzard so “comfort food” would be good. If I had wings on hand, I’d probably fry them with up and make up some carrots (with brown sugar and butter) and some potatoes and gravy. 🙂

    What time is dinner? 🙂

As it turned out, it stopped raining, so I was able to cook them outside. I didn’t want to mess up the grill so I fried them.

Not as good as teriaki and pineapple would have been, but we really enjoyed them!

Oops, too late! You missed dinner. 🙂
