It’s that time again. Though today is actually the birthday, I celebrated two days earlier with Dad at the nursing home.
The plan was to buy a generic birthday cake but you can imagine how alluring the Star Trek cake was. The “Live Long and Prosper” mantra seemed appropriate. So, why is there no age on the cake? An integer would be irrelevant! By the time the 23rd century rolls around, I’ll have been dead for many decades. No milepost is needed. 🙂
Much of the cake did not make it past the nursing home – Dad and Sherrie, as well as the staff, were happy to assist with the effort. Sherrie, by the way, is an outgoing lady who is always trying to hug or kiss me. She’s a doll! It was a fun time… I love visiting the folks at Manor Care!
Later on Thursday, it was off to deliver more cake to friends at the favorite hangout – the local HyVee grocery store deli. Treats were shared with buddies; even some random strangers from the neighborhood indulged. It was a blast!
Friday night was the evening to cash in on the Riverside Casino’s free birthday buffet, though to a much lesser degree than in years past. I’ve had a recent string of diabetic complications – even losing sight intermittently in the left eye. The doc put me back on insulin and the plan is to get things under control again, hopefully making the “live long” thing more likely to happen. One bright note – I made $20 in five minutes on the casino’s penny slots. That’s two days’ camping fees! The door didn’t hit me in the a$$ on the way out of the casino!
So now the plan is to find something entertaining to do the rest of the birthday and on into tomorrow. The van is full of gas and ready to go. It is just a matter of which direction to go and what new adventure awaits. Stay tuned. 🙂
Thanks for stopping by and have a pleasant weekend!
