Some Cool Northern Lights

Good old St. Nick in Decorah

Welcome friends.  Since the last post about going north and catching a very nice trout, a lot has happened.  More about that in a bit.  But first, here’s a post of something beautiful experienced on that trip.

So here is what I meant by the “Northern Lights”  (northern Iowa, that is!)  At this time of the year, the Pulpit Rock Campground in Decorah is converted to a large drive-thru Christmas light show.  Businesses and organizations sponsor dozens of colorful, vivid LED displays.

This exhibit was sponsored by the trout hatchery.

Fishing… Woo hoo!

There’s more than one way to move packages!

Reminds me of the old NBC Peacock

Much prettier than my tree!

This fun light show was one of the things that helped brighten the spirits during a difficult time.  Dad was laid to rest on Saturday, December 7.  I miss him a lot but the shock of his passing was softened by having watched him fade from us.  It was a beautiful service and helped Sis and I to cope.

Let it snow Things are back to the usual routine of working, sleeping, and shoveling that white stuff…  In the last few days, we had 6-7 inches of snow.  The low will be -11 tonight.  What a perfect night to sleep out!  It sounds kind of crazy, but sometimes a person rests better outside in the absence of dust and allergies… and cats crawling on you, wanting to be fed.

It’s kind of exciting to see that we’ll have a white Christmas in Iowa!  Let it snow!

Take care and enjoy the holiday season!  It’s approaching quickly…  Shop early and think about ordering 2nd day air shipping for those presents!  😀

About VanTrekker

I am a former vandweller in Eastern Iowa who, for several years (off and on), lived in a 2007 Chevy cargo van. I still travel around Iowa with my tortoise shell cat, Jennifer Stefanie. Our favorite place to explore is the Country Heritage Community, the four far northeastern counties of Iowa (Clayton, Winneshiek, Allamakee, and Fayette). Ride along as we fish in pristine trout streams, enjoy fine home cooked camping meals, and meet new people. It's all possible on a shoestring budget. Happy travels always! --- Brad, the "Van Trekker"

Thanks! I was looking at your site and the magnificent paintings. I’m impressed! It’s been a tough few weeks but things are going pretty good overall. I hope you enjoy the holidays as well!

I’m glad things are settling down for you, Brad. -11 sounds seriously cold to me – the lowest I encountered in my (very brief) attempt at vandwelling was 7 and that was really, really bad. But I didn’t have good insulation or heat and I know you have both, so enjoy your winter – and your white Christmas (which it looks like you will be having; I don’t think that snow will melt in the next 10 days 🙂 )
