Yeast infections can be pretty annoying … and painful, too!

In speaking with diabetic friends, I’m surprised how many have had trouble with occasional yeast infections in the armpit and crotch areas – particularly those of us who go camping, hiking, perspire a lot from working, etc.  Elevated sugar levels contribute to the problem in a big way.  Left untreated, the affected skin area can become very painful in short order and limit movement.  But for many of us, a home remedy can quickly and easily bring relief.

vinegarOne caveat – I would only use this remedy externally because the concentration is stronger than what I’ve read is used for feminine cleansing.  It could throw off the internal PH value, etc.

But for this old caveman, an effective external mixture is 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar and 1 cup of water.  Even in a painfully inflamed area, two or three applications of the vinegar / water per day (allowing it to air dry) has been effective… even where baby wipes and antibiotic creams did not help.  It’s worth a try!

I hope this information helps other campers… Men (myself included) don’t like to talk about yeast infections because people often equate the condition with hygiene.  A person would be amazed at how many of us get them occasionally… and how easy it can be to treat the infection yourself.  There are great articles on the net discussing a number of different remedies.  It’s worth checking them out!
