Hello friends. It is with a deep sadness that I share this information with you. One of this blog’s vandwelling enthusiasts has died at a very young age.
Some time back I met Christopher Munger, who the blog readers have known as “C”. Chris, a Senior Network Administrator for an insurance company, showed up one day at Dad’s while I was working on the house. Chris had been a blog reader for some time and wanted to meet the author and his intrepid vandwelling cat, Serena.
We talked for quite some time about our relatives and various favorite places to fish, eat, etc. His family was from West Union – a place very important to me now and perhaps in the future. Chris also recommended a fantastic eatery in Decorah, the restaurant named “Ede’s and the Angry Pickle”. It was a fun visit and Chris was one of those guys a person could talk with for hours.
To my surprise, the next day a plastic bag appeared on the outside door of the house. It contained a bottle of wine (for me) and a pouch of Temptations cat treats (for Serena). What a kind gesture! It sure brightened the day!
Shortly before his death, Chris paid another visit. The house was cleared out and nearly ready for sale. I noticed some signs that Chris was gravely ill and hoped he would be okay. I recall him saying how much he wished he could do some vandwelling and spend time in the out-of-doors. I told Chris (like I tell everyone) that life is short. If you want to go camping, just do it!
That was the last time I saw Chris Munger alive. Today I was thinking about him and did a search online, afraid that perhaps something had happened. Chris passed away on May 1, 2014 – the day that Dad’s house changed hands and I officially became a full-time vandweller. Talk about irony.
Christopher John Munger will be greatly missed. I’m so glad that we were able to meet. Please join me in saying a prayer for the Munger family.
Thank you for visiting. Take good care. Life is short… Go camping more and eat plenty of avocados. 🙂
