Hello and welcome! Last Friday I visited the Vesterheim Museum in Decorah. This comprehensive collection of artifacts includes handmade metal objects, furniture, cooking utensils, dining artifacts, wood carving, needlework, and more. The museum exhibits detail the emigration of Norwegians to the United States starting in the early 1800s. This wonderful venue is a “must see” if you are in the area.
Of course, there are many more pictures one could post but it would take all day to upload them. There are also exhibits regarding Norwegian faith and even a civil war exhibit. Did you know 1 in 6 Norwegian born Civil War soldiers were named “Ole” ?? That’s just one of the fun facts you’ll see at this remarkable museum. It’s a great deal of fun and educational, too… and a terrific place to take one’s family!
Well, that’s about it for this trip… So what’s next on the horizon? I’m going to take the van down to the city of Muscatine and see buddy Johnnie for an unusual party – one that will involve some day camping, pizza, and a whole lot of 1980s TV shows. More about that later this week.
Take care and thanks for stopping by!
