Fun at the McCookout

Kosh, the manager’s Siberian Husky

Hello and welcome to the blog today.  Today the McDonald’s crew had a cookout at the state park in Anamosa.  There were only about 20 of us here but we ate plenty.  The restaurant had to stay open during this period so not everyone was able to join in…  but those of us who were there had a pretty good time.

In the interest of sharing a bunch of pictures, the picture quality was reduced to save some data for those on a tight plan.  So let me introduce some of the coolest people I’ve ever been lucky enough to work with.

Elias, Trask (General Manager) and Spencer. These three hard working young men all work at McDonald’s!  The two Siberian Huskies are Kosh (left) and Nadia (right).  The dogs are brother and sister – about 11 months old.

Tabi, one of the managers, and her granddaughter. Tabi is super fun to work with.

Jessica, Isaac, and Issac’s son Isaiah. That little guy sure wanted lemonade!

Nick, one of the managers. We both work on cars a lot and enjoy talking about it. I wonder who drives that big white van next to Nick’s Honda?

From RIGHT to left, Tangia (the mom), Jamia and her boyfriend. The ladies could pass for sisters!

Tangia, Summer (french fry lady), and manager Cassy. These smiling ladies make work so enjoyable!

Nobody else brought a dessert but I’d planned on bringing one familiar to the readers… but with a twist.  While preparing a blueberry treat this morning, a buddy stopped by with some tart cherries that had been donated to the food pantry!  The cherries were paired with the blueberries, a bit of fresh lemon juice, and some sugar and flour.  The filling was delicious.  After things cooled down I frosted the cinnamon rolls.  The  dish sure made a hit with the folks at the cookout!  (If blood sugar was money, I’d be up there with Bill Gates today)

The next project is to make a similar filling with Splenda and use it on pancakes or to make a pie or ….   ??

Looks like something made a week ago… but even tastier.

I also donated some diced, roasted potatoes (cooked in a foil packet)  as well as several pounds of marinated pork steak (brown sugar, water, soy sauce, liquid smoke, garlic, onion, pepper, salt)  We sure ate like kings.

It was neat to meet some families, share a good meal, and make some memories.  I hope we can do it again one of these days.   One thing I forgot to mention was that the weather was outstanding.  It’s about time, right?

I was enjoying a hot dog… and some lemonade with a shot of green apple liquor. 🙂

I’m not sure when the next camping trip will happen.  In about a week the temps look great for a longer trip… but I might brave the heat and check out a new camping spot this Wednesday.   We’ll see what happens.  I’ve got a special ingredient from the cookout to use on the next excursion.  🙂

Take care and thanks for visiting!  Safe and happy travels!

About VanTrekker

I am a former vandweller in Eastern Iowa who, for several years (off and on), lived in a 2007 Chevy cargo van. I still travel around Iowa with my tortoise shell cat, Jennifer Stefanie. Our favorite place to explore is the Country Heritage Community, the four far northeastern counties of Iowa (Clayton, Winneshiek, Allamakee, and Fayette). Ride along as we fish in pristine trout streams, enjoy fine home cooked camping meals, and meet new people. It's all possible on a shoestring budget. Happy travels always! --- Brad, the "Van Trekker"

What a great gathering, looks like a fun group to work with. Your dessert of course looks like the winner it must be. At least the weather was on everyone’s side. Hope you get to go camping soon and have such beautiful weather.

Hi Jo! I might try to slip out for a night this week but next week is looking really good in terms of weather and the work load. We had some frozen 1/4 burger patties left from the cookout so I’m thinking up something good to do with them for the next outing. As I found out this last week, lavish meal ideas aren’t too fun to cook during hot weather. 🙂 Take care and stay cool!
