Thanksgiving Plans and the Cookie Monster

My little cookie monster trying to get into the Thanksgiving treat.

Hello and welcome to the blog.  This will be a pretty short post.  I’m sitting at McDonalds using the free wi-fi and buddy Steve just walked in.

Sis sent this beautiful turkey shaped basket of cookies from the North Carolina Cookie Company.  They are heavenly.  Keeping Jenny from chewing the basket was a challenge!  The cookies included are sort of an oatmeal raisin flavor.  They are going to go along on the next camping trip.

Work has been hectic and we’ve been short handed.  I may have to work Thanksgiving so the next camping trip will happen on Monday and Tuesday.  There won’t be any fishing this time but there should be some really good food enjoyed.  Jenny, the “Cookie Monster” will likely go along.

Since work isn’t opening until 4PM on Thanksgiving, there are lots of free dinners in the area.  I might go to the one locally where a bunch of the town’s friends will be enjoying a good meal.  We’ll have to see.  Otherwise, I know a lot of really good restaurants in the area – maybe a road trip will happen.

This last week has been difficult.  This cold bug has hit with a vengeance.  Within a few hours I went from a tickle in the throat to full blown bronchitis.  The fever / sore throat / aches / sinuses / stomach issues / were so bad I missed 1/2 day of work.  Things are getting better slowly but it’s been an uphill battle.  The weather has been crazy this year and everyone is getting run down and sick.

There should be something fun to try for breakfast on the upcoming camping trip.  A buddy of mine had some venison made into rope sausage.  He offered to trade the venison for the trout.  Being sick, I’d never gotten the last fish used up so they had been frozen.  It’s fun to trade some game back and forth.

Gotta run for now.  Thanks for visiting!  Safe and happy travels next week!  We’ll be out and about.

About VanTrekker

I am a former vandweller in Eastern Iowa who, for several years (off and on), lived in a 2007 Chevy cargo van. I still travel around Iowa with my tortoise shell cat, Jennifer Stefanie. Our favorite place to explore is the Country Heritage Community, the four far northeastern counties of Iowa (Clayton, Winneshiek, Allamakee, and Fayette). Ride along as we fish in pristine trout streams, enjoy fine home cooked camping meals, and meet new people. It's all possible on a shoestring budget. Happy travels always! --- Brad, the "Van Trekker"

Hi Brad! You finally caught me on the laptop, so I can make a comment. When I do it from my Android phone it always duplicates the comments for some unknown reason! I’ll get back to you via email by next weekend. I have the new site set up and have been adding content to it and doing some tweaking but it’s not turned over to the search engines yet. Enjoy your fishing, but take care of the virus. Have a Happy Thanksgiving. We’ll be at the clubhouse on Thursday for a community dinner. More in the email next weekend.

Hi John! Good deal about your website. I’ll add a link to it when you get it ready to go. It’s going to be a little while before I do any fishing… That last virus has been pretty rough. I hope you enjoy the community dinner. We’re having one in Anamosa on Thursday and I’ll likely go and see the friends from around this small town. The price is right. The heavy duty cooking and camping will be on Monday an Tuesday.

Hi Brad, what a cute gift you sister sent.
I know about the yuck feeling. I had it for only a day 1/2 but today I went for a flu shot I think I should have waited until next week. Feeling pretty crumby right now. Sure glad I did my shopping right after I got my shot . Made sure I picked up some chicken legs for chicken soup, which is now cooking in the crock pot. I have all the things I need for making pumpkin cheese cake and a few other pies.
Can’t wait to see what you come up with for camping meals.

    Have a Happy Thanksgiving

Hi Jo! That nasty cold is still lingering on… now in the form of a severe sinus headache. Oh well… Camping tomorrow though! New recipes! I’m going to see a structure I remember from the 70s that is being torn down. Take care and have a good week! — Brad and Jenny.

P.S. I have to turn moderation on again… Dang spammers are having a hay day. 🙁
