The Wapsipinicon River Bridge in Anamosa, Iowa

Hi and welcome to the blog today!  The weather is moderating this week.  Last week was very cold and snowy.  As of today’s post, there is about 8″ of snow remaining on the ground.  With the temperatures climbing, now is the time to get some pics up before it all melts later this week.

The project Monday was to start to shovel out the neighbor’s driveway.  I made $20 for about 1/2 hour’s worth of intense work.  I was delighted!  That money comes in handy for future road trips.  With warmer temps it should only take a few minutes to finish it up today.  Easy money!

The next stop was to the park just a few miles away.  The eagles were dining on fish along the shore and on the ice over the Wapsi River.  I’m jealous!  All the while I was noticing the low river level which will improve as this snow pack starts to melt.  It was fun watching the meal in progress!

With a little luck things will thaw out in the next couple of weeks.  It doesn’t look like a whole lot of fun having a picnic today… well, at least not with all that snow.

This picture was taken looking North-East from the edge of town.  The view is spectacular from here.  Though I sometimes have to adjust the contrast on photos, it was not the case on this picture.  The blue sky was stunning.

The van is running well.  I’m still cautious about taking it too far or pushing it right now… but am optimistic it will do well on the next trip.  There is a museum I would like to see as well as visit buddy Johnnie.  It will be a fun outing… That’s coming up in a couple of weeks.  For now it’s back to doing some cleaning… starting with the van.

Take care and thanks for visiting today!

About VanTrekker

I am a former vandweller in Eastern Iowa who, for several years (off and on), lived in a 2007 Chevy cargo van. I still travel around Iowa with my tortoise shell cat, Jennifer Stefanie. Our favorite place to explore is the Country Heritage Community, the four far northeastern counties of Iowa (Clayton, Winneshiek, Allamakee, and Fayette). Ride along as we fish in pristine trout streams, enjoy fine home cooked camping meals, and meet new people. It's all possible on a shoestring budget. Happy travels always! --- Brad, the "Van Trekker"

Love the pictures of the eagles. Is it common to see them where you are? We have eagles moving back into Ohio and the one time I saw one, I was stunned–in a good way. Snow is so pretty to look at, but I would rather look at it from a distance. I hope the van continues to do well and you can take your trip as planned!

Hi! We are seeing more and more eagles. In the Decorah area they are becoming a problem at times. They swoop down and kill chickens, cats, any kind of foul. I agree with you about snow. It’s pretty to look at but not so fun to deal with (unless making some money shoveling). Take care! I might slip in a short little camping trip on Monday of this coming week. 🙂

Such great picture of the eagles dinning along the river. The snow looks so pretty from where I am sitting.

Glad to hear the van is still doing well and you are smart not to push it in this cold weather. But I’m sure you know how to take care of it.

Picking up some camping cash is a good thing.

Hi Jo! The snow is definitely pretty but I’ll be happy to see it go soon. It is going to be warmer here starting today. It’s good I got paid for the driveway because it will all be melted in a few days. 🙂

Take care! I’m at the doctor’s office mooching wi-fi while waiting. 🙂 —- Brad
