Bye to Buddies Trask and Brandon!

Scooters Bar and Grill in Anamosa… A great place to eat and to have a gathering.

Hello and welcome to the blog.  Today was a sad day.  Trask F, my boss and personal friend, decided to pursue a different career path.  Tonight most of the work crew and managers gathered to wish him well.  I attended the festivities.

From left to right: Friend Angie, Former General Manager Trask, and Manager Savannah.

I owe a debt of gratitude to Trask.  For a younger person he has a gift for seeing potential in each person and helping him or her contribute to the team.  I can only hope that it will be possible to keep the fun going another few years at this job!

Savannah, the young lady on the right, is a crab rangoon aficionado.  I’ve made homemade crab rangoons, empanadas with rangoon filling, and even crab rangoon pizza and brought them to Savannah.  She’s a lot of fun!

From Left to Right: Summer, Brandon (a.k.a. “Buddha”), Manager Shane and Manager Mike

Summer (far left) is one of the best friends.  I have never once seen her have a bad day and her explosive laughter is… well, it brightens the day!  Brandon (the kitchen manager who is also leaving us) and I have been friends for 4 years.  Countless times I’ve teased him, asking to be suspended for a few days to go fishing.  The answer has always been “no”.

Shane is a newer manager and it’s been rewarding to watch him grow and prosper.  Manager Mike (on the end) used to the be the maintenance guy and also moved up the chain.  He’s got a good sense of humor and a most pleasant demeanor.  We all work really well together.

“Live long…. and proshhhper”… Enjoying a vodka, cranberry, and pineapple juice libation.

It was fun hanging out with the group, having a drink and enjoying telling work stories.  There are many changes coming to the store as we’ve had a sudden bubble of turnover.  What hasn’t changed is that I work with a great group of people who care about trying to take good care of customers and keep the orders prompt, fresh, and accurate…  all the while enjoying our jobs as much as possible.

So, farewell to friends Trask and Brandon as they move on to greener pastures!

My old sedan and the Trekker Van… The little Cobalt now belongs to a work friend.

Even while a bit short on help , somehow I’ve been able to secure enough days off to go fishing next week and am preparing for the van trek.  It’s going to be a lot of fun.  Sis made a very expensive contribution that will be cooked up and featured on the blog.  Jenny will have a good time as well.

For now it’s back to work for the third time…  Sometimes it’s morning, noon, and night but it’s a labor of love.

Thanks for visiting today.  Take care and happy camping!

Brad and Jenny

About VanTrekker

I am a former vandweller in Eastern Iowa who, for several years (off and on), lived in a 2007 Chevy cargo van. I still travel around Iowa with my tortoise shell cat, Jennifer Stefanie. Our favorite place to explore is the Country Heritage Community, the four far northeastern counties of Iowa (Clayton, Winneshiek, Allamakee, and Fayette). Ride along as we fish in pristine trout streams, enjoy fine home cooked camping meals, and meet new people. It's all possible on a shoestring budget. Happy travels always! --- Brad, the "Van Trekker"

Aww…I hate when you get a really good team together and then someone leaves…although a few times, I’ve been the someone leaving! I hope things work out for the best for everyone. Really curious about the “very expensive contribution” Sis made–great cliff hanger!

We’ve had a lot of changes but things are working out well. Brandon is staying after all as the new G.M. and he’s very “fishing friendly”. There will be some tasty new dishes on the next trip. Sis contributed some high end protein (as in about $50 / lb) and I’m hoping to do it some justice. 🙂

What a great tribute post you have made for your former and still co-workers. Sounds like one of the better McD’s for sure.

Hope your fishing trip goes well. Have fun and will be looking forward to your Sis’ donation meal
