Some Gifts from Jenny and Duke

Jenny and Brad and Duke…

Hi and welcome to the blog!  It’s been a crazy busy week again.  I was intending to do some camping over Father’s Day as well as share some presents received (from Sis) in honor of the fur babies, Jenny and Duke.  It rained really bad last weekend, nixing the plans.  But this weekend I am getting some camping in, sitting at a picnic table as children run through the grounds at sunset without a care in the world.  Bless their little hearts!  I wish I could still run!

Just before Father’s Day, the cutest card came in the mail along with some gifts.  I had been oogling a little rechargeable DVD player for the van.  My laptop doesn’t have a player and besides, it’s just too big some times!  This little DBPower brand, 10 inch version with an extended warranty was about $60.  I love it so far.  While it’s good for DVDs, I keep about 50 TV shows on a flash drive for entertainment off the grid, if need be and can play them on here.

Another gift arrived the other day.  It is a custom t-shirt that I saw on FB.  Ironically, I had started to order one the recently and then aborted the process.  Sis ordered the exact same shirt and I am delighted with it.

Bennett, Iowa… about 25 minutes west of Davenport, Iowa

With Monday and Tuesday off, it seemed like a good idea to recharge a little bit before the 4th of July weekend.  It was kind of a brutal week.  (I think the Coronavirus made people forget how to cook at home!)   All the recent turmoil has made some folks pretty edgy, too.  It is what it is.   🙂

Tonight I’m at the Bennett campground about 20 minutes from where buddy Johnnie lives.  We’re both excited to hang out and go for a little drive on Monday.  For Johnnie’s birthday I said we’ll hit Dollar Tree.  It’s a fun place to shop and buy stuff without doing much fiscal damage!

The camping dinner tonight was pretty easy.  It was just red and green peppers, shrimp and onions, sautéed with medium salsa and oil… fajita style.  I put the mixture in a bowl over some Uncle Ben’s (I stocked up on it recently!) Spanish style rice.  For such a simple supper, it was really tasty!

So for now, it’s off to bed.  The sun is down and the bugs are going crazy.  I used bug repellent but for a diabetic it seems like nothing works.  There’s a little extra sugar in each bite.   🙂   Time to go watch a movie.  There will be another post soon after Johnnie and I raise some commotion tomorrow.  It will be good to see my “little brother”.

Thanks for visiting!  Take care!  Safe and happy camping!

About VanTrekker

I am a former vandweller in Eastern Iowa who, for several years (off and on), lived in a 2007 Chevy cargo van. I still travel around Iowa with my tortoise shell cat, Jennifer Stefanie. Our favorite place to explore is the Country Heritage Community, the four far northeastern counties of Iowa (Clayton, Winneshiek, Allamakee, and Fayette). Ride along as we fish in pristine trout streams, enjoy fine home cooked camping meals, and meet new people. It's all possible on a shoestring budget. Happy travels always! --- Brad, the "Van Trekker"

Hi Brad! Glad to hear that you’re out having fun. The recipe looks good! We have a lot of things going on at our end, too, but I’ll send an email soon. Stay safe!

What great gifts from the fur kids. I think I need to have a talk with Fred about this LOL
Glad you were able to do another camping trip and your pepper and shrimp looks devine.
    Stay safe and well

Hi Jo! See what Fred will gift you, I’m sure he would gladly! Oh, it was so nice to get outside. I’ll be doing another post. I had fun hanging out with my buddy, cooking up some good food, and seeing some neat things to take pictures of. I hope to post tonight or tomorrow. Have a good one! — VT

Hi, love the Cat Dad shirt! Your fajita vegetables look good, minus the shrimp for us vegetarians. I had my son install a DVD player on my lap top. I usually read or do word puzzles when camping, but carry some DVDs just in case. I love shopping at the Dollar Tree, but for me, it’s more like the $20 Tree! I see so much and think, “Why not buy this? It’s only a dollar!” Have fun!

Hi! I am the same way! I told Johnnie to buy stuff he wanted since he’d had a birthday. It was around $20. What can you get for that now days? LOL. But it was a blast visiting.

I bet a person could substitute mushrooms for the shrimp with great results. I also made really good egg / fajita dish the next morning out of the same mixture. Mushrooms would be fantastic!
