Hi and welcome to the blog. It’s been an enjoyable week but simply put, I hurt… and probably should. For a person who sprained a shoulder falling off a ladder a couple months ago, I’ve been on and off one at least 30 times in the last week…
Things are coming together nicely. I spoke with four contractors who said they were interested in fixing the roof of the homebase. None bid, none returned my calls. No surprise. But friends referred me to some Amish roofers who have an outstanding reputation in the area. They were on the roof on Tuesday and said they can fit it in before the snow flies. These folks do amazing work and are very reasonable. They’re also regular customers where I work. 🙂
So, as part of the derecho storm (100+ MPH winds), I lost some decaying fascia board on the mobile home. It was kind of ugly. Over the last few days I cut some boards, painted and assembled them, and rebuilt the fascia corner boxes. It required many, many ascents and descents… No accidents! (We won’t talk about close calls!) The worst part was dealing with some pissed off wasps… I have a little problem with wasp stings and thankfully none occurred or there would be hospital pics!
This was a huge success for the summer. Earlier this year there were various health issues that made working on the home difficult. It’s done now…well, till Spring. It is time to celebrate after this work weekend.
For the upcoming trip I just bought a new cooler for fishing and it’s a little larger than the ones lugged around before. This 5 day, Coleman Xtreme wheeled cooler came from bonuses and extra hours. Work will let me go home for a few hours and then will occasionally text and ask for 3 more hours. Rested up, I will bite. The hours add up and buy toys!
The plan is to go camping / fishing on Monday and return later on Tuesday. The meals are going to be ultra low cost thanks to a number of area programs to help lower income Iowans as well as victims of the violent storm on August 10th. The meals will also be pretty healthy, too! See the photo above. Food Bucks is an amazing program. Watch for a vegetarian meal, maybe?
That’s about all that’s new for now. Toward Tuesday evening there should be a post from the adventure. It’s a beautiful time as things are cooling down, the seasons are changing, and we’re losing the dreaded heat. For Dad and the cats, we’re really enjoying every day to the fullest. God is still good, the needs are met, and though it’s not always easy, life is exciting.
Safe and happy camping travels!
